How to Get Here
Skitube
If the road conditions are bad and you are not comfortable driving from Jindabyne, you have the option of taking the Skitube. This is located at Bullocks Flat which is 20km from Jindabyne and below the normal snowline. It is an easy drive, along the Alpine Way on the road towards Thredbo.
Not only is it extremely convenient, the Skitube trip is actually quite enjoyable for all. The trip takes 10 minutes to get to Perisher Valley and another 7 minutes further on to Blue Cow.
Longest Underground Train Tunnels
The track goes 6.3km underground, making it one of the longest underground train tunnels in Australia, and travels as deep as 550m below the surface. From Perisher you can catch the free shuttle bus to Smiggin Holes.
Parking is FREE for the day and overnight at Bullocks Flat and is security controlled.
Airplane
Canberra International Airport is a 2.5-hour drive from Smiggin Holes and a 40-minute flight from Sydney. The airport is located about 10 minutes from the city center, with regular connections available to and from Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth. The two airlines that service Canberra are Qantas and Virgin Australia.
Qantas also fly to the Snowy Mountains airport (Cooma), which is the largest town in the region. Limited flights are available from Sydney and Brisbane. Cooma is located around 40 mins from Jindabyne and around 1 hour 10 minutes from Perisher resort.
Transfers
Snowy Mountains Airport Shuttles
Snowy Mountains Airport Shuttles meet every Brindabella flight with shuttles direct to and from Skitube. Bookings are essential. Private transfers direct to Smiggin Holes can be arranged.
Snowy Mountains Airport Shuttles also offer personal transfer services from Snowy Mountains Airport to the resorts. Personal transfer services involve the exclusive use of the vehicle as well as the ability to stop for groceries or ski hire (subject to time constraints, extra charges apply).
Driving
Heidi’s Chalet Apartment 4 offers the rare convenience of FREE on-site parking for guests — a true luxury in the Snowy Mountains, where parking is virtually unavailable in Perisher and extremely limited in Smiggin Holes. It is the only accommodation in the area to provide this complimentary facility.
Getting to Heidi’s Chalet Apartment 4 in Smiggin Holes is easy — approximately 5 to 6 hours’ drive from Sydney via Canberra and Cooma, or about 7 hours from Melbourne. The majority of the journey is along freeway-standard or dual carriage roads. From Jindabyne, it's a scenic 30km drive via Kosciuszko Road, taking around 30 minutes in good weather.
Park Entry & Chains
In winter, motorists are legally required to carry properly fitting chains in all vehicles excluding 4WD’s in all “snow-ice” risk sections within the National Park. If chains are to be used, you will be advised by signs and park officials. All cars must pay park fees upon entry to the National Park. Passes can be obtained at the entry gates to the National Park.
Shuttle Service
A free shuttle service operates between Perisher Valley and Smiggin Holes.
The shuttle service runs from 7.30am to 6pm and until 10pm Tuesdays and Saturdays during July & August and Tuesdays during September to accommodate for night skiing and boarding.
Pick-ups are from the turning circle at Perisher Skitube Terminal and the metal bridge outside the Smiggins Hotel at Smiggin Holes. Shuttles depart approximately every 15 minutes.
